about

This recording was initially titled “Knell for Jackie Stewart” until I realized that Jackie was still very much among us and still making beer commercials. Consequently, Sir Stirling Moss stepped into the knell, after his recent passing in April 2020. Stirling, of course, was one of the United Kingdom’s greatest race car drivers in history as a British Formula One Racer. As an Inductee into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990, he won 212 of his 529 races between 1951 and 1961, his primary years in racing. He’s been described as “the greatest driver never to win the World Championship”, where he placed runner-up 4 times and in third place 3 other times. [Wikipedia]
As a kid in the early 1960s, I loved watching car races speeding and racing on intricate tracks and long-distance roads on ABC’s Wide World of Sports! If he was in a race, you could find me rooting for him to win the races because I loved watching his British Racing Green cars on the hot and the slick tracks of the racing circuits the world over. There will never be another one like him! Rest in Peace, Sir Stirling!
Bang your drums, ring those cathedral bells, and listen to Sir Stirling race one more top speed race through the streets of Singapore! Let the bells ring on high for him!

Sounds include:
A Balinese cremation funerary (Ngaben ceremony) in Ubud Bali, Indonesia; bellringers practicing at St. Mary Le-Bow Cheapside in London; a Shanghai Formula 1 race course zooms through at lightning speeds; and an Orchestrion (mechanical street organ) recorded in Den Haag city-center, The Hague, Netherlands.

Inspired by experimental music of the 1930s & 1940s, I am a composer who gets your juices flowing: I splice, chop, flip, stretch, slow down, and speed up music in "Soundtracks for Unknown Films and Shorts". Here, you may find a melange of mellow ambience through a space-wild, spine-tingling galactic fantasy. ... more
